I’m invested in you

People who are employed in helping professions may not see themselves as counselors, yet we frequently serve in this role. I save a lot of time before and after sessions so that I can really speak with you, absorb what you’re saying, and reflect. This is one of the ways we consider ourselves modern, and outside of the “hit ‘em and quit ‘em” spa model.

Yet all too often, I find myself frustrated at the gap between my clients’ actual need, and my scope of practice as a massage therapist and yoga teacher. I find myself wishing I had extra tools to use, beyond my skills at the table. So this August, I will embark on Cornell University’s Wellness Counseling program, as an effort to bridge this gap!

It is my hope that the program makes me a better therapist. The course will teach how client-directed counseling can be effectively blended into a variety of fields where behavioral change is needed - issues related to massage therapy being one.

We will learn to outline research-based principles and techniques to use in our practice, and be positioned to use these techniques to enhance their effectiveness and garner success for our clients. And certainly, in my own life there are improvements to be made to my personal health - more to come!

Truly, this is a journey I want to share with you. What are you interested in changing for fine fettle?

Let’s learn together.
